I love creating work on commission, especially personalized maps that tell the stories of peoples lives or the lives of those they love.
Memories and monumental events are relayed to me along with hobbies, interests and quotes. Peoples lives are given to me in snippets – through email or over coffee. I am let in on their secrets, their rituals and their day to day routines.
It is a beautiful privilege to be let in on such personal information and it is my pleasure to intertwine it all in a delicate artwork that will hang on the walls of their homes.
If you are thinking of having a paper cut commissioned by me please get in touch as early as possible. I would love to chat with you about your ideas and the detail you would like included. Within one week I will get back to you with a draft that can be changed or re-done if needed. Once you are happy with the design, I then draw it up in reverse on a beautiful sheet of acid free and light resistant Canson Mi-Teintes paper. Then the cutting begins.
I love to stay in touch with my clients during the time I work on their commission. This allows them to be included in the process from start to finish and ensure the paper cut is exactly as they had hoped.
Once a paper cut commission is placed, please allow up to four weeks including framing time. I will ensure that your work is finished and framed with enough time for you to collect them before you need it and I will prioritize an order if it’s a last minute gift.
Most of my clients choose to have their commissioned paper cuts custom framed. I always go with Nigel and June, local framers from The Bitches Brew in Fremantle. Here, the papercut is held between two sheets of glass at the front of a deep set black or white frame. This creates a dramatic shadow on the backing card, showcasing the intricate nature of the work.
If you prefer a more DIY option I can make your paper cut to fit a standard frame and I provide framing instructions. They also look great stuck to beautiful white cartridge paper with thick double sided foam tape ready for framing.
Commissioned paper cuts begin at $300 with custom framing beginning at $110. The price for a paper cut is determined by the size and intricacy of the design.
I ask for a 50% deposit before beginning a draft with the remaining 50% paid on completion.
If you would like to enquire about commissioning a paper cut please get in touch with me through email at firstname.lastname@example.org or send me a message using the contact form.
I am always excited to receive new commissions and look forward to getting to know you and hearing your ideas.
